2019 - Our Top Ten Highlights Of The Year

By Gillian Crawford 31 December 2019 No comments

Happy New year! It has been an amazing year in the Lily Blanche studio. I am so proud of the team and of everything we have achieved in 2019, none of which would have been possible without your continued support. So the first thing to say is an enormous THANK YOU to all our customers, friends and followers.

We hope 2020 is your best year yet!

Here are our 2019 highlights

1) Our Brilliant Team

At Lily Blanche, it is first and foremost about the people and we welcomed some stars to our team in 2019. We said ‘hello’ to Natalie and Kelly – two brilliant creative minds – who have brought drive, energy, dynamism, fun and style to the studio.

Natalie has overhauled our Instagram page with real flair so if you haven’t checked it out, please do so, https://www.instagram.com/lilyblanchejewellery/ We’d love to hang out with you there, where we will be showing off some of the amazing videos and photographs taken by Kelly.

Kelly is our visual content creator and we have some great things planned for 2020 – new collections, new shoots, how to videos and lots more peaks behind the scenes, including the influences and processes which go into to creating a new collection.

We also said ‘hello’ to Marta, who helps to make the jewellery in our workshop and brings lots of skill and dexterity to the process. Also joining us in 2019 was MohammadReza, our brilliant data scientist. MohammadReza completed his Masters degree in data science in the summer and has been helping us to understand and use our data more effectively.

David, our fantastic IT developer, has done amazing work keeping the Lily Blanche website working efficiently and adding new elements. David is working on new systems for personalising the jewellery on our website. We’ve got some great new customisable collections for 2020. Watch this space.

2) A Move To New Offices

In summer 2019, we moved into new offices close to our original studio, which gives us two fantastic spaces to work in. We also had a ministerial visit from the Scottish Business Minister Jamie Hepburn when we became the 650th business to sign the Scottish Business Pledge, which recognises us a fair, ethical and sustainable business, playing a part in our local community.

3) Aawrds - Yeah!

In 2019, we were finalists in two categories in the Association of Scottish Businesswomen’s Awards and won runner up in the prestigious Business Of The Year category. We were also finalists in the Business Women Scotland Awards.

4) Engraving Our Jewellery

We got our new engraving machine at the start of 2019 which has allowed us to add a whole new level of personalisation to the lockets and Memory Keeper bracelets. The jewellery looks amazing when it is personalised whether it is a favourite saying on the back of the Memory Keeper Locket – “Family: where life begins and love never ends” is one of the nicest we’ve engraved this year – to the names of all the family on the individual links on the Memory Keeper bracelets. We’re planning to add more engravable pieces in 2020.

5) New Collections

We launched our Four Photo Charm Lockets in 2019 which have been an amazing hit. Kelly has developed a great service for filling these lockets with pictures and the results have been well received.

6) Collaborations

We got involved with some lovely collaborations and some great brands in 2019. We loved working with influencer and brand ambassador for luxury Scottish products Solveiginscotland who fell in love with our Gold Memory Keeper Locket and Garnet ring. Her Instagram is amazing. Can you spot Lily Blanche in her feed? https://www.instagram.com/solveiginscotland/

We also loved working with luxury handbag brand Sarah Haran and Natalie ran a great competition to win one of her new jewellery boxes along with a Lily Blanche locket to pop in it. Before Christmas, we ran a competition with our friends at Lux & Bloom to win one of their beautiful hand-printed silk scarves.

7) Celebrities

We caught up with Judy Murray, who has been a great supporter of our brand, made a bespoke Feather Locket for Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and welcomed the Coast presenter and author, Neil Oliver, to the studio in 2019. Neil drew our first competition to win £100 of Lily Blanche jewellery. We plan to run this competition throughout 2020 so there are lots of chances to win.

8) Giving Back

In 2019, we worked with the homeless charity Social Bite, giving to the organisation for every review we received and visiting their village in Edinburgh.

Gillian completed the Growth Advantage Programme for entrepreneurs at Strathclyde University Business School and took over the chair of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs. She was also instrumental in setting up a new Institute of Ecommerce for Scotland to train a new generation.

9) Tell Us Your Highlihgts

We’d love to hear what you’ve been up to in 2019 and specifically what you’d like to see us do in 2020.

10) 2020 Bring It On!

It’s been a fantastic year for Lily Blanche and we know 2020 is going to be even better. We can’t wait to share our plans and new ideas with you. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to find out when happens next.

Three Brilliant Ways To Support British Brands Without Buying Anything

By Gillian Crawford 5 November 2019 No comments

These are difficult days for all businesses but especially for small or family-run businesses. As Covid-19 restricts our movement and stops us interacting, businesses are starting to feel the effects. We are in a very fortunate position of being able to work remotely. Our studio in the beautiful Stirlingshire countryside is still operating and we will continue to make and dispatch our personalised and engraved lockets for as long as Royal Mail continues to deliver. We love what we do and will continue to do it. As many of you know, our business is a politics and panic-free zone. In fact, I sometimes think that what we do at Lily Blanche – making bespoke, personalised lockets with lovely photos of families and reminders of happy times – is an antidote toeverything that is happening right now.

We’ve been so lucky to meet or talk to so many of you through our website and through social media. In fact, we have dealt with thousands of customers and almost without exception – I would say 99.9% of the time – the people we deal with are not just polite but absolutely charming and lovely. So either we are very lucky or people generally are much kinder than we are sometimes led to believe. It’s a bit of both, I think.

It is also the case that whatever happens at with coronovirus or Covid-19, or around Brexit, there is a lot of uncertainty for business. It sometimes seems that the entire country is holding its breath. A couple of you have asked if there is anything you can do to help and I thought I’d share what I am doing to help the businesses I support.

The most important thing is spreading the word, especially at this time. Everyone gets stuck for ideas so if there are friends or family you can share with, that is a fantastic start. It actually makes a massive difference. Word of mouth is our number one source of new customers.

The second thing that makes a big difference is reviews. So many of you have already done this for us. I’m always humbled by the reviews we get. I can honestly say there have been days in the past, particularly when I was just starting out, when a glowing review has given me the impetus to keep going. Now, when we get a five star review, it boosts the whole team. Click on the stars to read our reviews.

trustpilot

Sometimes customers who have bought from us more than once ask if it is ok to leave a second review. The answer is that second and subsequent reviews count for more, so please do. The Trustpilot reviews are fantastic but if you are also able to leave a review on our Google Business page here (the bit with the Google map and star rating on the righthand side of the search results) that is incredibly helpful too. If a company gets enough of these, Google puts the stars into the listings. Reviews also help to keep the internet safe and free, so by leaving reviews for the companies you buy from, you are doing everyone a service.

The third thing is engaging with social media pages. Facebook, Instagram Pintrest and Twitter decide how many people they will show business posts to based purely on engagement from friends and followers - likes, shares and comments, particularly comments. More importantly, even for big businesses, it is a real person who writes the posts and it is always lovely to get feedback.

We endeavour to respond to every comment left for us because it is so important to find out what you think. Engaging with people on social media, by email and on Live Chat is a really fun part of the business and there is always a race in the studio to answer the Live Chat.

So even if you are not in a position to buy from a company, you can actually do an enormous amount to boost that business and help keep people in employment just by spreading the word, leaving reviews and engaging with them when you see them on social media. You are effectively cheerleading for the whole economy.

I never really thought about any of this until I started my own company so now I do it for all the businesses I support. Over the next few weeks, I’m thinking about introducing you to some of the businesses I’ve discovered and that I plan to buy gifts from. They are all British, design-led companies doing lovely things and hopefully you won’t have heard of them and it will give you some great ideas. It’s not an advertising thing and there is nothing in it for us, other than we’d love people to do this for us too.

I just feel that we all have a lot more power than we sometimes realise to influence things for the good and until we get out of this political and economic stalemate, we should do what we can.

Meet Louise of Lux & Bloom. Louise Rushford launched her independent design company in Bath in 2015 and now supplies everyone from John Lewis to some of the biggest names in interior design.

Louise, who is originally from Glasgow, studied fine art and then contemporary dance in London. Her experience in art and choreography, give her wonderful textile and interiors business its unique signature style.

I first met Louise at a trade show and her work stood out for its quality and style. It did not surprise me one bit when companies such as Liberty’s and John Lewis came knocking. Her silks have amazing quality and her printed velvets are all done by hand. The designs are very appealing. I have her magpie cushion and her Crow Patrol cushion and a number of her wonderful silk scarves.

Lux & Bloom are the best of British design and will certainly be on my Christmas list this year. Gillian

The next business I'd like to introduce you to is One Hundred Stars. https://onehundredstars.co.uk/

I first came across this lovely brand when I was looking for a lightweight robe to take on holiday. They make the most beautiful kimonos and their use of colour is superb. The kimonos and gowns are made in a very lightweight fabric which makes it ideal for hot countries. The Evening coats and duster coats a little heavier. One Hundred Stars was founded in Sheffield five years ago by sisters Heather and Rona Stevenson. The sisters have collaborated with Kew Gardens to make a range with elaborate floral designs. Nigella wore their Venice gown on her television show and looked great and the gowns featured in Mama Mia, the film version.

One Hundred Stars are definitely on my Christmas list and I'm looking forward to giving the kimonos to friends.

Get Four Months Interest Free Credit And Split Your Payments

By Gillian Crawford 26 July 2019 No comments

We get lots of requests for finance options and payment splitting on our Memory Keeper Lockets and other pieces and we are always keen to make it easier for our customers to spread payments, so we researched the market. It was important to us that any package we recommended was easy for our customers to use and as accessible as possible.PayPal Credit came out top. It means that our silver Memory Keeper Locket costs around £2 a day for four months - that's cheaper than a daily coffee!

Lily Blanche recommends PayPal Credit

Below are all the facts you need to get started with PayPal credit at Lily Blanche.

Lily Blanche has teamed up with PayPal Credit to make it easier to spread and manage your online purchases.

Simply spend over £99 and you can receive 0% credit for four months. What’s more you can receive four months interest free credit every time you spend £99 with Lily Blanche online.

What Is PayPal Credit?

PayPal Credit is like a credit card, without the plastic. It’s a credit limit that’s attached to your PayPal account which you can use for your online purchases.

How It Works

Simply complete PayPal’s short application for here and, if approved and once you accept the Credit Agreement, you’ll have a credit limit linked to your PayPal account almost straight away.

Do I Need A PayPal Account To Apply?

You will need a PayPal account to access PayPal credit.
Signing up for a PayPal account is free and easy; all you need to do is provide your email address, create a password and accept the PayPal User Agreement.

How Quickly Will I Receive PayPal Credit?

The application form takes minutes to complete. PayPal then runs a credit check and if approved, you’ll have a credit limit linked to your PayPal account as soon as you accept your Credit Agreement.

How does the 0% for 4 months offer work?

0% interest for 4 months is available on single transactions of £99 or more*. It applies automatically to any purchase made using PayPal Credit in excess of this value, except those to which another Promotional Purchase Offer (such as an instalment offer) applies. You can use this offer as many times as you like as long as you have an available credit limit.

Any remaining balance due after the 4 month promotional period or any transactions under £99 will be charged at PayPal’s current interest rate. If you fail to make minimum repayments on time or in certain other circumstances, PayPal may remove your offer. Please see the Credit Agreement for more details.

How much will my credit line be?

To determine the size of your credit line PayPal uses the information you provide in the application form along with internal PayPal data and an external credit check.

We hope this helps you manage your payments. If you need any more information, please contact us PayPal.
