What is the History of Carnelian?

The Carnelian gemstone was first discovered in 1800 B.C. on the island of Crete. In Ancient Egypt, Carnelian was known as the ‘Sunset stone’ due to its orange-red colour.

Carnelian is formed from two silica minerals growing within differing crystal structured (quartz and moganite). The orange-red colour comes from iron oxide.
