Make your jewellery extra special by adding engraving

Engraving brings your jewellery to life and adds a story to your jewellery. It can also add value to your jewellery as it is handed through the generations. Antique jewellery which is engraved is highly collectable.  All of our engravable jewellery is machine-engraved by our specialist team in our own studio.

Choose Your Font

We offer three different font types for engraving on your jewellery. Choose from Roman, Vanessa or Script font for a truly bespoke finish.
Roman is a block font and is the clearest and most compact of the engraving fonts. It gives a wonderfully legible engraving.
Vanessa is an italic font. This is a specialist engraving font, and there is no direct word equivalent. This is a popular and decorative font.
Script is a cursive calligraphy font. This means that the swirls in the letter take up a lot of room on the engraving. It's best suited to monograms and dates. Capital letters use up a lot of space, so it is advised not to use the maximum character count on the jewellery item if you are choosing Script as your font, to give the engraving room to breathe.

The Principles Of Engraving

  1.  When it comes to engraving, less is more. A short message, a monogram, initials or dates work best on most jewellery. Use the gift message to convey longer or more sentimental messages.
  2.  The engraving machine determines the size and scale of the individual letters and how they are placed on the jewellery. This will depend on the font, the complexity of the engraving and the exact mix of capital and lower case letters. An engraving in Roman font will generally appear larger than an engraving in Script font, as the machine has to take account of the swirls in the font. We are unable to change the size and scale of the engraving, as this is a process which the engraving machine automates. If you are engraving across several panels and want the engraving to appear the same size throughout, please spread the engraving message evenly across the panels.
  3.  While we offer a preview tool in the personalisation box on the product page, please note this is for guidance only. It is designed to show the layout and line breaks of your engraving. It is not a replica of your engraving. That can only be determined by the engraving machine at the time of engraving.
  4. Each piece of jewellery has a character count for engraving. This includes spacing and has to work across all three fonts. The number of characters is determined by the size and shape of the engraving surface. Heart shapes are the most limited in character count. Round shapes give the most scope for longer engravings. Please note that the longest line of engraving will generally be placed across the widest point of the engraving surface.
  5.  Please preview your engraving. If a character does not appear on the preview, it is usually because you have exceeded the character count. If your engraving does not quite fit the character count, please contact us by email, stating your order number as soon as you place the order, and our engraving specialists will do their best to accommodate your engraving or make a suggestion for a similar engraving which will fit.
  6. Please double-check your engraving. Engraving is final. It cannot be erased, and engraved pieces are non-refundable. By placing your order with engraving, you are deemed to have signed off on the engraving. Our team will engrave exactly the characters chosen in the order they are placed. Engravable Jewellery

Our Memory Keeper Lockets can contain a hidden message which is revealed when the locket is opened. The Memory Keeper can be engraved across three panels on the reverse.

Our Four Photo Oval Charm Lockets and Butterfly lockets can be engraved with initials and/or a date on the back, with an engraved message on two hidden panels inside.

Our Four Photo Heart lockets can be engraved on one line on the back of the necklace.

Our Men's Dog Tag Necklaces & St Christopher Necklaces are very popular with a personalised, engraved message. The Dog Tag can be engraved on the front with a monogram and on the reverse with a longer message across two lines.

Our St Christopher Necklaces are engravable on the reverse across two lines. This allows for names, dates or a short, meaningful message.

Most of our engravable two-photo lockets allow engraving on the reverse of the locket. Our engravable pendants and bracelets can be engraved with initials and dates. Please be aware that our engraving machine will automatically adjust the spacing and font size to fit the area to be engraved. For an even font size, please ensure the message is roughly the same length across panels and lines.

The best engraving messages are sayings and quotes that hold special importance to the loved one receiving the jewellery. Short messages work better than long ones. Initials and dates are always a classic. Your message can be as funny or as romantic as you wish.

It's also helpful to bear in mind the size and shape of the item for engraving, as the character count is different for each item of engravable jewellery.
