The Meaning of Lapis Lazuli

In the Renaissance, the stone was ground down to create the pigment ultramarine and was used by Michelangelo to give the Sistine Chapel ceiling its deep blue tones.

It's associated with royalty and symbolises strength and courage. The stone is often likened to a night sky full of stars because of the gold flecks in the blue gem.
